In charge of the orchestra conducting class at the Haute Ecole de Musique – Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève, Laurent Gay has conducted a great number of concerts in Europe, Asia, South America in a vast repertoire.

He has regularly collaborated with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne, the Ensemble contrechamps or the Orchestre de l´Opéra National de Lyon. He has also conducted the Orchestre de chambre de Genève, the Orchestre de la Suisse Italienne, the Sinfonietta de Lausanne, the Orchestre de Bretagne, the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, the Orchestre Régional de Basse-Normandie, the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra (Denmark), the Daejon Philharmonic Orchestra (Korea), The Bahia State Symphony Orchestra (Brazil), or the Ensemble Orchestral de Genève (artistic director from 1986 à 1996) and the Orchestre du Festival Amadeus (artistic director from 1999 à 2004).

Also working in the operatic field, he has conducted many lyric productions, notably at the Opéra de Lausanne, the Opéra National de Lyon or the Opéra Royal de Versailles.

A good number of the productions he has conducted have been broadcasted on several Swiss and French national radio and TV channels.
Laurent Gay also has several record productions to his credit, with the Orchestre du Festival Amadeus, the Ensemble Contrechamps or the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne.

His commitment in the support of contemporary music has led him to premiere about thirty new pieces, among which Xavier Dayer’s opera Le Marin (The Sailor), and induced him in 1993 to create the Ensemble vocal Séquence, an ensemble of soloists which he has been conducting since and which has become a major actor on the contemporary scene.

Invited to serve on the juries of several international music competitions, Laurent Gay has always had an interest and been involved in teaching. He has recently been invited to give a conducting Masterclass under the NEOJIBA program in Brazil.

A well-known pedagogue, he now devotes much of his time to teaching orchestra-conducting .
